Kudrinka Dancers Perform in the US Midwest: July, 2014   Leave a comment

Kudrinka Dance Ensemble, a folk and modern dance ensemble from Moscow, returned to the United States in July for several performances in celebration of the 40th anniversary of its founding in 1974. Kudrinka was invited to participate in the Evanston Ethnic Arts Festival near Chicago (July 20) and other events in the region in late July. Eighteen dancers and the three leaders of Kudrinka arrived in Chicago on July 17.

Kudrinka performs dances from cultural traditions of many countries. A Kudrinka concert is a celebration of the unity in diversity with its display of dance from many cultures, as a beautiful garden contains many different flowers. Kudrinka dancers regularly perform at Moscow city holiday events.

A Kudrinka performance is a celebration of diversity of people’s from many countries. Kudrinka folk dances include many countries of Eastern and Central Europe but also Irish, Latin American and Spanish dances. Many of their dances reflect American tap, jazz, pop and even break dance traditions.

Kudrinka dancers last traveled to the United States in 2007 and 2008 to participate in a dance competition at which they won top prizes including first place in their age group and “Best Entertainers”.

Kudrinka dancers come from diverse backgrounds and professions: scientists and engineers, entrepreneurs, university students, housewives. One of Kudrinka’s leaders is head of furniture restoration at the Moscow State Historical Museum. Many have grown up as part of Kudrinka since childhood. What they share in common is a love of dance and the willingness rehearse long hours three nights a week to prepare for Kudrinka concert performances.
